TAX BENEFITS
Montana law offers tax incentives as well as discounts to those engaging in renewable energy development. Some are just for individuals; some are just for businesses; many are for both. These incentives generally apply to most kinds of renewable energy. Since ethanol and alternative fuels are something of a special category, you’ll find incentives for them in a separate section.

The tax incentives are updated to cover the 2007 tax year. Incentives for energy development created by House Bill 3 in the 2007 Special Session will be added once codification is complete.

Montana Green Power

The combustion of fossil fuels releases more than 6 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere each year. The United States alone is responsible for 23 percent of these emissions. Clean energy sources, such as solar energy, can help meet rising energy demands while reducing pollution and preventing damage to the environment and public health at the same time.

Green Renovation

BozemanHouse.com documents what Ron Gompertz and Michelle Gantt learned about sustainable building practices during their one year house renovation project. They incorporated alternative energy systems throughout their home: photo voltaic panels and solar thermal hot water systems, hydronic radiant floor heating, a heat exchanger, Montana's first legal gray water recycling system, polished concrete floors, recycled glass and cement countertops, super insulated walls and ceilings, drought tolerant landscaping and much, much more. By sharing their experiences with their neighbors, they hope it might help make YOUR renovation or building project a little more green and a little less frustrating.
